As we head into the new year, it’s exciting to see what new kitchen trends will emerge. Here are our 2023 Kitchen and Bath Trends and predictions.
OLD MEETS NEW: The Hipstoric Home trend, as coined by Pinterest, has emerged. This style incorporates vintage items, often inherited, perfect for that collected feel.
TRADITIONAL CABINET ELEMENTS: Our experts are using more columns and decorative details in their cabinetry and designs. This has been heavily influenced by fashion, as lace, ruffles, tulle, shimmer, and sheer clothing as they have started to make a comeback.
DECORATIVE HOOD CABINETS: Homeowners investing in this important focal point now more than ever. These can be semi-custom cabinet hoods or even in alternative substrates such as quartz, ultra-compact/large format tile [LFT], and plaster.
ORGANIZATION IS EVERYTHING: Our Kitchen Design Experts are seeing increased prioritization and budget invested for cabinet organization, inserts, and accessories. People want good-looking and functional kitchens. Better organization is a kitchen trend you don’t want to avoid.
HIDDEN APPLIANCES: Our Experts used to see hidden appliances in high-end kitchens, but this is now becoming more mainstream, as many strive for an organized and minimal look. Appliances can be hidden with appliance garages, tall pantries, or wall counter cabinets.
HIDDEN ROOMS OR ZONES: Who doesn’t love the mystery of a hidden room? Our Kitchen Design Experts feel this one will be huge in 2023.
Hidden rooms can be used for Hidden Pantries, Bar Areas, Wine Rooms, Butler’s Pantries, Spice Kitchens or Just because.
SPA-LIKE BATHROOMS: Basic bathrooms with no storage are out. In early 2022, our Kitchen Design Experts saw more intention, investment, and planning for spa-like bathrooms. The experts feel this will continue to grow in 2024.
BLACK AND NATURAL WOODS: Still trending in 2023 is the black-painted kitchen with natural wood accents. What’s great is that it can be styled from mid-century modern to modern farmhouse and everything in between.
BLUSH-BEIGE COLOURS: Sherwin-Williams launched Redend Point SW 9081 as their color of the year for 2023, and they were spot on. It’s warm, earthy, and cozy.

DARK GREEN: The Superior Cabinets Trends Experts thought we hit “peak green” in late 2021, but they were wrong. Dark green cabinets continue to be a popular selection, especially when mixed with light natural wood stains. You won’t be able to avoid dark green cabinets in 2023.
RUSTIC KNOTTY WOODS: Natural materials and organic in the home are still trending. Rustic or Knotty woods are being selected more for those wanting to deepen their connection with nature. Popular wood species for rustic cabinets include Hickory, Maple, Cherry, and Black Walnut. This was the inspiration behind the 2023 release of the Rustic Knotty Alder Collection by Superior Cabinets for the USA.

THIN COUNTERTOPS: Our design experts are now seeing the acceptance of thinner countertops in North America, rather than the thicker chunky style countertops. This includes 1 cm thickness, compared to the 2 or 3 cm standard. This is often selected by fashion-forward homeowners, designers, builders, and renovators. The experts feel this kitchen trend will continue to climb for a few years.
