ABOUT ALDER WOOD

The Rustic Knotty Alder Collection by Superior Cabinets

If you are considering Alder Wood for your cabinetry and home, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Is a relatively soft hardwood of medium density.
  • Naturally has a warm, natural honey to reddish brown tone.
  • Will have knots and wormholes.
  • Has a similar wood grain pattern to Rustic Cherry and Maple.
  • Knotty Alder varies in texture, density, and grain pattern.
  • Has a low shock impact resistance, small dents, and scratches will occur.
  • Material is sourced in North America.

The natural knots and grain patterns in the wood create a beautiful, rustic look that is perfect for any style of home decor. Plus, the warm, golden hues of the wood add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any room.

Is Alder Wood too Soft for Me?

Alder’s softness is not all bad, as this and its natural honey and reddish color allow it to accept the stain beautifully, resulting in a warm and unified look. Due to Alder’s natural softness, it is more susceptible to dings and dents from everyday use. If you have a busy and high-traffic home, other wood species may be a better fit, such as Maple, Hickory, Oak, Black Walnut, and Cherry, as they are harder woods.

For those that love the natural aging and patina process, Rustic Alder is a great choice. This is why many homeowners, interior designers, professional kitchen and bath designers, and builders select Rustic Knotty Alder, these blemishes can add character to the cabinet doors, fronts, and panels with age.

  • Holes that penetrate the thickness of the doors should be limited to 1/4” in diameter.
  • Wormholes may be present in small quantities and sizes.
